Here is an interview to Asa Higuchi, mangaka of baseball-themed series Ookiku Furikabutte, and there are some things I found extremely interesting:

I: I guess baseball isn't at the center of their lives yet, after all, is it?

H: Yes, that's right... I really understood that there are still a lot of childish sides to the players, by asking what they're like at home. And then, when they're on the grounds, they all look cool, right? I find that gap really interesting and I think it's something that can "complete" the characters inside my head as full persons, so I want to pay attention to these details.

In manga drawn by men, even if the mothers appear, they're never lively, energetic mothers. They're not realistic, always stereotypes. That's something that may make me different from other authors because I'm a woman.

There's something else I realized by doing this (=mixing with the moms) and that's how much high school boys change from being first years to third years. Like, when you realize "Waah, he's become so reliable!". I want to draw the growth that leads there!

I think that's extremely important, some role that is always forgotten or badly portrayed in shonen manga is the protagonists mother/s one, and Higuchi does a great job with the kids mothers in her manga.

I: Also, you've inserted things like mental training and psychology-like elements in the story...

H: Yes, I researched that, too. You see, when training everyone plays well, but during a game (things are different), for example if the ace fails, it's the worst time to cry, but tears just pour down in a waterfall. I think that things like this don't depend on how much physical training you've had, it's rather a mental problem. And it's something you can only experience in a real game while being under pressure. I was thinking with all my might about this problem and I discovered there is a field called "mental training", so I thought of introducing it in a casual way.

I thought it'd be good to spread it more among high school students, too, even just the concept that "there is a way not to feel under pressure!" to be understood... Because in a real game there's a constant tension of making errors and having to say goodbye to everything, so "if they could just be able to play at their best..." is what I think. So I looked into it (mental training)and made a through research so that I won't write incorrect information.

That's why her manga is so good, she researches. (And not really shonen, but a seinen.)

Supongo que todo el mundo conoce la serie Supernatural, verdad? Pues no importa si nunca vieron un episodio, tienen que ver éste video musical de la serie hecho por dos fans. Porque muestra TODO lo que ésta mal en la televisión/ficción, no solamente en ese programa. Además es un video increíble con una canción fantástica.

Como dicen en los comentario, no sólo la mayoría de las víctimas del show son mujeres, sino que sus muertes/violencia/personajes son erotizados y, a diferencia de los protas y los hombres, no sirven para nada más que eso en el plot (los protas tienen motivos, desarrollo de personaje, están en una posición de poder cuando son 'víctimas' y definitivamente lo que les pasa no tiene el mismo efecto que esto). Lo peor es que no es un problema de sólo SPN, es de toda la TV, y es invisible. No te das cuenta hasta que te lo muestran (sería distinto tratar de mostrar lo mismo en un manga-anime, digamos XXXholic, porque es evidente, a diferencia de la ficción occidental que se manifiesta de formas más sutiles y tal vez inconscientes para el que crea/escribe porque la sociedad es menos sexista). Es un mal de nuestra ficción, cuando un hombre muere lo hace de manera asquerosa y poco relevante, cuando una mujer muere lo hace de manera asquerosa, poco relevante y con imágenes de violación.

Me encontré el video en metafandom, en ésta entrada y tengo que traducir uno de los comentarios:

Somos entrenados para hallar erótico a las mujeres como víctimas, particularmente filmadas de la forma en que fueron filmadas esas escenas. Bueno, somos entrenados para hallar la vulnerabilidad erótica en las mujeres. Yo especulo que es porque una mujer físicamente vulnerable se ve disponible para el sexo, sin importar si ella lo quiere o si las circunstancias son apropiadas. Es esa Mirada Masculina otra vez. Hemos aprendido a mirar la tv o las películas a través de la mirada masculina, y se nos muestra que una mujer en un camisón, o un bikini, o una cama es vulnerable y sexy.

Las mujeres poderosas no son sexy de acuerdo con ese cálculo e, inversamente, los hombres vulnerables no son sexy. Son graciosos o son débiles. Otra vez, los fans se están revelando contra esto, o parecen estarlo. Pero la Mirada Masculina no encuentra a los hombres vulnerables sexy, sólo a las mujeres, y la vulnerabilidad contiene el siempre presente riesgo de violación.

Ella dice que alguien más experto tal vez encuentre una explicación mejor, pero para mí esto es más que razonable.

Dios, ¿cómo no pueden existir traducciones del manga más alla de las scanlations? ¡No hay cosa más cruel que engancharse a un manga que tiene 8 tomos de los cuales sólo se scanlatean 1 y medio!

¿Traducciones? ¿Alguien?

Lo peor es que aparentemente se pone más gay después. Ésta es la serie de la que hablo. Ahora es cuando me odio por nunca ponerme las pilas y aprender japonés.
