Oooku movie and shonen manga
Oh, people look what
beyourwings gave me:
Oooku's trailer! Low quality, filmed at some screening apparently, but you can get the picture.
Edit for second trailer:
suikascented shared a HQ trailer here:
There is even the kiss Mizuno gave to that boy I can't remember the name of! And YOSHIMUNE, oh God she looks fantastic. I'm scared of some of that acting, but apparently is very close to the manga. I wonder how Yoshinaga must feel right now. Seriously, it looks awesome.
Now, on shonen manga:
Fairy Tail: The world building and plot planning/pacing is extremely amazing and so very creative, we have (cis, of course, One Piece-like, don't forget) women character who not only have agency and kick ass, but protect the (equally cis, of course trans men are seldomly used for humor so there isn't any here) men and defeat the rivals the men have trouble with. It's really unlike most shonen manga in that aspect.
But in all the other speshul aspects of this manga: now we have a villain that looks like a pseudo-Native American (or something, I have no idea). They also make clear the other dark-skinned guy is tanned.
The over-exploitative (bordering on abusive hentai) fanservice gets worse as the manga goes forward.
Also, I could be so fine without the screams and discourses proclaiming the glory of Fairy Tail every two pages. I don't think even 12 year old boys get impressed by that by now. Personally, I think this manga is superior to One Piece, but when it tries the One-Piece emotional impact, it just overdoes it. The tears and SHONEN DISCOURSE OF DETERMINATION DUE TO NAKAMA are just so over the top when you get it every time something happens. I think they were more tamed in OP (I could remember wrong of course).
Kinda messy comments on the plot: What's up with the Jeral/Gerald thing this manga has? It's about popularity? Because even when you think you got rid of that guy for at least some arcs, he appears as the face of some random character with apparently no connections to him just to ~*trouble*~ Erza. And then there are all the women who love him... but I was so happy with the Urtear plot-twist about she being the one using him (after he said he was using her). But knowing this manga, there could be another plot-twist stating she really loves him!
Erza. Where do I start? She is so amazing, and I love her infinitely, but can't help but be annoyed and how fetishistically vulnerable she gets at certain points. The armor-around-heart thing just made me roll my eyes.
I get it, most people are vulnerable, but when Natsu/Gray/Luxus get emotional they also get more powerful. Of course, it's generally due to anger. Erza gets weaker when she gets emotional, so she needs to be saved. Could be due to some guilt still there, but then we had Gray's back story where he felt guilt (more reasonably than Erza's case), and even with that he defeated Leon. I get, though, that I have to be happy she isn't Chickified, even if I don't think that's possible in this manga because, besides this "romantic vulnerability" thing and the horrible fanserive, Erza's treatment was almost flawless. Right now she is acting like Gerald's shoujo's saviour. I guess I should be happy, but I just can't stand the man and I'm not exactly reading this manga to see her with angsty romance for a man (who I can't stand) while Natsu fights.
Continuing with the emotion = weakness in women, there is also Mirajane who obviously doesn't suffer from that: she releases her power (and kick ass) when emotions and memories of her past get the better of her. Now, funnily enough, she suffers from other trope: she is not active. She suppress her powers and completely changes her personality because she is way better/healthier/happy without them. It's not like Luxus who can redeem himself and mature without having to get rid of his ginormous amount of power, he will just get better using his power for the good (I was 99% sure it was going to happen, I still got annoyed even if I thought that arc was amazing). Mirajane's power, for some reason, brings her pain.
ETA for spoilers to 155: Ah. Okay. But apparently these are good so they are light-skinned "Indians."
... And it get worse. They are pacifists who created a powerful weapon, but now the descendants of "this race" are in danger.
Though Erza just showed me that she got the best out of her "weakness". As always, defeating the strongest one. She goes to my interests.
Reborn: Pst. You know, it's pretty funny how Reborn's fandom can make an uberly dreadful chapter way more fun. If I ever doubted this manga was all about its fandom.
