Okay, since it's not on my journal I won't respond to this person, I really don't know how the OP feels about this, but seriously? Why don't you tell us more about your white European history and how fascinating you find the racism towards a Vietnamese descendant in her post?

If I didn't feel so uncomfortable about this, I would talk about white privilege, and First World privilege and how they interact in a global level. Because some things coming from both sides just make me so tired.

But white Europeans? Who colonized my country and the reason racism in incredible and tremendously prevalent here is definitely not USA (but I'm not saying their culture doesn't influence ours a lot, that's not what I'm saying).

ETA: I forgot to say it, but what really, really bothered was the dismissal of

wistfuljane's experience. As if being German-American, Italian-American was the same as Vietnamese-American or Asian-American. Which clearly is not the case. (But the OP may not feel it that way, as a dismissal I mean, and I respect that.)

Yeah, but I think that while we are talking about race or something, it would be nice of white people not to... minimize POC's experiences about racism, or derail.

ahahahah! I've used "Diaspora Standing Room Only" in the past, but that's very specific. *g*

:D I like the "Standing Room Only" part though and I'll have to use it sometime.

I've made posts before where I explicitly said, "Please don't comment unless you have had this precise experience and know exactly what I am talking about" and that actually seemed to work to filter out, er, white people.

Of course, there's always one or two who don't get it. But I no longer bother talking to such people.

That's a good note. I think one of the stressors, for lack of better words, is that there are certain types of comments I can't let stand in my journal and I -- just need to fine-tune my disengagement methods more.

The way people go on and on, you'd think that white americans were originally from Mars, not from,say, europe.
