.............................................And here I've been, researching for months to write a novel with a FTM protagonist in a fantasy setting. Now more than ever I want my project to become a bestseller so I can tell this author "ON YOUR FACE". :|
Oh God, the FAIL in this one. But transphobia, aside...
in amodern or sf context, a transgendered person could solve the situation withsurgery, genetic modification, body-swap, or whatever. Those options arenot available to a fantasy author.
OH, I DON'T KNOW. WHAT ABOUT FUCKING MAGIC? Actually, I think that a magic spell to change your body to the right one might be more effective in fiction than sci-fi science, and less possible side effects too.
Incidentally, the only story I've read with a FtM character is a short mythological story in Metamorphosis. Iphis was a biological girl who was raised as a boy in secret, and he fell in love with the girl next door. He and his mom prayed to the goddess Isis before the wedding, and they got their miracle and he was turned into a young man. It's... not entirely a good story because it was written by a Roman man and it shows, but it has a magical fantasy happy ending for the transexual character. SO YEAH, POSSIBLE.
Yeah, or maybe just show that genitals have nothing to do with gender, and make their character trans and wholesome without altering their genitals, but since the woman obviously knows shit about trans people and asking something like that for her would be impossible...
Not to say body modification using magic isn't a option, heck, lot of trans people modify their bodies, but it isn't also a MUST for a trans character as she seems to think ("solve their gender problems" or something, as if trans people problems aren't a product of society transphobia but of their own bodies), and... clearly, the woman is just full of stupid.

... and this comes from a woman.
How is this different to all those male authors saying "oh, we don't write female protagonists because that's for a ~special audience~". HOW.
And everything else is even worse. Ugh.

I mean, seriously, it's the worst excuse ever. She's not even trying.
