Wow. And here I thought we were near the end. But no! We have new... creatures. Exterminators or something. Kinda grotesque, but I like them. I wonder what it means that they have their eyes and mouths sewn, if it means something (I know it isn't exactly an unpopular design, but).

But Helen and Deneve. Helen and Deneve.

Helen, what a way of dealing with Isley. She got really strong. And Deneve. And their arguing. For a moment I thought Deneve was going to kiss her or something.

HELEN: I guess we are just stuck with one another like always, huh?

DENEVE: Well, it was just the two of us to begin with. I suppose it wouldn't be too bad for things to end in the same way.

Seriously, Isley looks decadent. Those exterminator-things have to eat him or something. Decadent, I tell you. I know Helen made that discourse to Miria, but... no. I'm not going to accept it. It wouldn't make sense for them to die at this point. Later, maybe. But with Isley there? No. No.

I don't want to make another entry so, Political Privilege and Priorities by Aaminah Hernández. Palestine, Gaza. And priorities, I thought I had to recommend it.

Well, pretty much everywhere in the west. Maybe not at US's degree, but, yeah.

I think the issues are slightly different in Europe - not better but more centered with problems related to colonialism and post-colonialism; whereas the mainstream position about the Israelo-Palestinian conflict - and the pressures that go with it - are quite different from the way it is in the US. Of course I can't claim to know first hand, so...

Oh. I'm sure things are different. I didn't mean it wasn't. But I still think that from a Muslim Woman of color point of view things shouldn't be exactly easy. Like, I... don't know, but I kinda doubt those white-liberal-leftist prejudices and moral superiority isn't present.

Oh, just curious, but do you mean that people are more centered in eradicating colonialism, or that the problems are due to colonialism and post-colonialism over Muslim people? I think it was the latter, but my english sucks and I'm curious. ^^;;

No. Definitely not. But the argumentation around Israel and Palestine is quite a bit different in specific.

I mean that our dear president Mr Sarkozy had the guts to say we should reenvision France's colonial past also emphasying the benefits that colonialism was for the autochtones rather than only the bad, because, supposedly, France is doing such a good job at assuming the bad it did to all its colonies (or what it does presently, especially in Africa). Yeah, not really the former.

My English's hardly perfect either.

Yeah. Here things around Israel-Palestine are presented in a different light too. But still, isn't exactly devoid of Islamphobia.

benefits that colonialism was for the autochtones

... What? And... what?. Dear God, lets forget genocide for a moment and... focus on the good of it! Because... it totally had good things.

And let's forget the economic and human exploitation, the slavery that France did participate in (not just the US like they like to believe), the ethnocide and cultural eradication, the torture during Algeria's war of independance, and the condoning of dictatorship after the decolonisation. Colonialism helped "civilize" these people, out of the greatness of France's heart. Urgh.

[identity profile] la-vie-noire.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Civilize. God. That's.. just. Not surprising. Still disgusting. Sometimes I just want to... slap people in their faces.

What? European countries are not part of colonization and of a capitalist system that still take millions of lives in 'The third world'? That's 'civilization' for you.

So the new thing is 'we are not USA so those savages we are killing have to be thankful to us'?

Slap, yes. Or vomit on them.

I think that's the smug superiority behind a lot of Anti-Americanism, yes. I don't mind blaming the US for the awful shit it does, but when it results in being blissfully blind to the similar shit in European countries' past and present, it does piss me off.

Yeah, totally with you on that last thing. I have heard that, a lot.
