[...] With that being said, I love love love Uhura as well because she helped save the world with her inteligence, was assertive and clever, and on top of being incredibly skilled at what she did, she gets the guy. What's more to love? But inspite of her positive attributes, all of these are downplayed by fandom in both communities. It just seems that whenever their is a strongly written Black female character and a hint that they are sexual or romantic towards the Lead, there is a loud, vocal protest from fandom (as you can see with the backlash between Uhura and Martha). It is the same stuff different year.

Thoughts on a Saturday Afternoon.I do think, however, that these videos are a good illustration of how the criticism of WSJ's editorial is justified at times. Because, to be honest, there's a part of me that says the Big 3 remaining so static -- I mean, the order shuffles occasionally but it's always One Piece, Naruto & Bleach -- can't be healthy in terms of artistic creation and story innovation. And I say that as someone who just got into One Piece and totally understands now why it's so popular in Japan and really admires the structure & execution of the plot. That can't be good for the manga industry, you know? Since I'm fairly sure part of the reason the current Big 3 are the current Big 3 is very strongly tied to multimedia franchises and marketing. In other words, if there's not a strong component for multimedia opportunity, it's not going to take off.
And from a creator standpoint, that... is really problematic.

De hecho, hubo bastante discusión al respecto (de la seria y de la wanky, claro). No sé cómo se vio desde *afuera* del fandom, pero yo seguí el fandom durante la temporada 3 y realmente hubo mucha discusión sobre el racefail ahí. Sobre todo porque los escritores (o al menos RTD, el escritor principal) claramente mostraban que a pesar de su awesome Martha ~*~no puede compararse~*~ a la maravilla de las maravillas que es Rose. (Aclaro: como soy fan de Martha traté de alejarme de las zonas con bashing, y me enfoqué más en lo positivo. Pero lo que describe el post sí que pasó, y mucho.)
Por un lado, estoy convencida de que a esa altura Rose era tan Mary Sue de RTD que cualquier nueva acompañante hubiera sufrido el mismo trato más allá de la raza. Por otro lado, eso no quita que las issues de raza siguen estando ahí, y son más obvias porque durante las dos temporadas anteriores tuvimos a Mickey Smith, el novio negro de Rose, que a pesar de tener un desarrollo de personaje espectacular y convertirse en uno de los personajes más geniales de la serie, obviamente ~*~no puede compararse~*~ al Doctor.
Y en la temporada 3 hicieron lo mismo con Martha.
Y al final de la temporada 5 Martha y Mickey aparecieron randommente casados. Y todavía no sé cómo me siento sobre eso.

... y con eso me refiero a compararse como interés romántico. Porque sí, ya sé que la idea general de la serie es que (casi) nadie puede compararse al Doctor en el sentido general de Genio Aventurero Excéntrico. ¿Pero como interés romántico? El Doctor es bastante pésimo. :| Y sin embargo nos tenemos que creer que nadie elegiría a Mickey antes que a él.

Y sí, recuerdo haber leido varias discusiones en esa época, el fail era enorme, pero el fail del canon no se quedaba atrás. So yeah,

Y lo de que se casaron fue muy reciente, en el especial de Año Nuevo. Además el fandom se quedó bastante sorprendido porque... no era necesario para nada. Hay un montaje con varios acompañantes anteriores del Doctor y lo que están haciendo ahora, Martha y Mickey aparecen juntos teniendo Épicas Aventuras... y por alguna razón hay que aclarar que están casados. Uh. Bueno.
