Oh God, ten years ago I was a big Saitou fan. It was more a "I SO want to be like him" kind of fan than a crush though. (Hey, I was like 13 and my life's dream was to be badass!)

Aaah, and I haven't read it (or watched it), but I have heard a lot of people sharing that one with you. XD

Good question, XD to be honest, it's probably because I hate this assholes glorification going on in shonen series. Like, violent masculinity being idolized. And the manga has a lot of that, Yamamoto stands out for me because he is uber skilled, bad-ass while being a sweet-heart (and not the idolized male main character). He is a really good guy; not a smiling, "nice" bastard. For me, he is probably the most emotionally mature character in his series, even if most people won't tell you that because is played for laughs, most Reborn character are a parody, an archetype taken to the extreme. Yamamoto is the uber genki, uber naive, never-gets-mad one. The funny thing is that the only other male character I like in the series in the one who is the parody of the "violent masculinity" stereotype, Ryohei Sasagawa, because what they did with that one is very funny, he is obviously a parody, his "being though" attitude is always ridiculous.

He is from Katekyo Hitman Reborn, the series kinda started as a gag manga, a very funny one, but selling on Jump transformed it into a... DB, OP, or Bleach.

To be fair, the series started as Tsuna, the main character being the stereotypical "shonen loser", which was just he being a normal guy and hating himself for that. Tsuna was still kinda less skilled than the average shonen main character, I liked him when he was like that. Still, you know how the tropes goes.

oooh, a genuine badass nice guy, yeah I can see the appeal in that ♥ especially since they're so rare.

Katekyo hitman really seems to be the cool new shounen everyone's talking about right now :( Yeah, I'm not crazy about your average shounen tropes in general and I pretty much gave up on reading fighting shounens with a very few exceptions (Claymore & FMA mostly). "Violent masculinity" is an interesting way to put it ^^ I think I'm more annoyed by the pacing/plotting problems, repetitiveness and the obligatory young male lead characterisation usually though XD
