Thank you for the link! I watched the first episode and hated it so viscerally that I didn't even have words, so it's good to know that others do. And rapist-Drogo was so awful, on so many levels, that it should've been a parody.

You welcome! Ah, yes, I watched all of it! So it was a super production, but yeah, I can so get your hate.

While I don't disagree that HBO's handling of the Dothraki was less than awesome in terms of race, I am sort of confused by Keller's impression that book!Dothraki aren't also incredibly racist in their portrayal. I always found descriptions of them in the books as incredibly othering and generally racist in a ~ohh look how exotic and strange~ sort of way. Regardless of my opinions, though, I do agree that HBO should have gone in a direction of the one they did, regardless of the original text's intent, successful or no.

I totally agree with you. Though Drogo was definitely WAY better in the books.

He was certainly given more nuance and humanity, no question.

Well, I will be the last to say his character was perfect, but at least his relationship with Daenerys made sense and was developed, they totally replaced him with Jorah in the TV series and made him "just a rapist."

Yeah. While I would never say book!Drogo is super PC, he is far better than show!Drogo.
