Eden: it's an endless world! Finished. Rejoice.
You know, I don't think I will find something more fit for representing the, "when it's good, it's damn good; but when it's bad, it's EXTREMELY HORRIBLE" quote than this manga.
Let's start with the good:
LOJI MADE IT. So did Kenji. Meh. I'm not that ecstatic for that pair, but since she survived and happily... who cares! (I think only Elijah and Kenji are unbeatable in the survival rate.)
So did both Mishima and (apparently) Shivan (but he, like many characters, wasn't even featured in vol 18), and separately. Which is good. I can ship it peacefully.
Also, I underestimated it. It REALLY did not take the Evangelion's route. The contrary actually. In that aspect, it went exactly like I wanted it. It wasn't the, "erasure and let's start again" shit; it was a, "let's work in the existing problems and the existing differences."
The level of researching this man did is outstanding. I didn't like the literal science and philosophy class this manga sometimes was, but you have to admire that he actually did a good job, and never went for the easy path.
The bad:
OH MY FUCKING SHIT, ENDO. WHAT PART OF "HOW THE HELL THAT IS LATIN AMERICA" YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND? ETHNIC CONFLICTS WITH BLACKS TRADING WITH WHITE SUPREMACISTS AND HISPANIC DESCENDANTS LATINOS BEING THE VICTIMS?
WHY IN THE WORLD NEO-NAZI WHITE SUPREMACIST GROUPS IN LA (not that I've heard much of them, sure, they probably exist, but... never heard of one that strong, and probably they are made of rich/middle-classed Hispanic-descendants Latinos, like most white supremacist shit here) HAVE CONFEDERATE FLAGS AS THEIR SYMBOLS? MY GOD. I STILL CAN'T GET OVER THE "EVIL BLACK GANGS."
Ennoia didn't plan it. He is just speshul for his speshul antibodies and his friends of color (Chad and Tony, latino and black respectively) DIE horribly for him. And then he has the nerve to say to Maya, "Don't screw with me, who the fuck you think you are? War, bigotry, inequality, destruction, humanity has a long way to go. So who has the right to give us a shortcut past all that?"
Which is damn true, but I was rolling my eyes. Because HIM? The white Drug lord in Latin America. The one who killed everyone as long and his family was happy. HE SAYS THAT? OH PLEASE, give me a break, manga.
I was going to say something more, but I can't remember
ETA: I remember noow! Yeah, aparently, in the next hundred of years all the scientific effort for technological advances will be focused on creating cyborgs (and nanotechnology), AI, and a little on internet interfaces (but our computers will still be used). But telephones, cars, houses, weapons, airplanes, helicopters, heck, even iPODs will be exactly the same as now. You know, I get that is all an analogy for our times, heck, even flashbacks of people whose childhood happened like 50 years or so before the story's current time looked like in earlier 20 century. But still. The cars, man.
